The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola said the allocation of the first phase of National Housing Project(NHP) will begin in 2020 as it is the responsibility of the federal government to provide infrastructure to accelerate economy’s growth.

This differs from the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and Federal Housing Authority (FHA).
 
The project is being executed in 34 states of the federation, with 28 contractors, this is a platform of job creation for the masses and we hope to step it up so that unemployment can be reduced with this kind of construction work, Mr Fashola said.

The minister also said the houses to be allocated are meant for low income and medium-income families, who are on a mortgage basis so they could pay slowly with deductions from their salaries.

The bidding process for allocation will be electronically done, while the National Identity card or International Passport or both could be used as a requirement, he added.
